Democratic Lawmakers Condemn Biden Administration over New Asylum Ban

On Tuesday, February 21, the Biden Administration signed a new rule that would hinder migrants who have traveled from other countries to cross the US-Mexico border seeking asylum, causing an uproar from other democratic lawmakers and immigrant advocates who are now comparing this type of lawmaking to a Trump-era policy. This new rule is a departure from the decades-long protocol that has helped immigrants find safety in America, and will most likely effect thousands of people. White House officials have denied all claims of comparison between this new rule and Trumps, stating that this is not a complete ban on asylum. This new rule is expected to take effect in May, which also happens to line up with the expiration of the pandemic-ear border restriction, Title 42. As the months drag on we will eventually see the problems that this new rule will produce for those seeking refuge on American soil.

The comparison to Trumps-era policy is a correct way to define this new rule, as we have been seeing issues with border control and asylum laws in America for years, with the Biden Administration proceeding to do exactly what past presidents have done before, and locked down our southern border. When Trump was in office we heard every single new rule and law he signed into action, along with how destructive they all were to America, but when Biden and his staff work on signing the same exact laws, we hear nothing in the news about it, instead just silence.
